WPPSI-IV

The Wechsler Preschool and Primary Scale of Intelligence –Fourth Edition (WPPSI-IV) is an individually administered test used to assess the cognitive abilities of children aged two years, six months through seven years, seven months. The WPPSI-IV provides subtest and composite scores that represent intellectual functioning in specific cognitive areas. The subtests on the Verbal Comprehension Scale assess a child’s ability to conceptualize, process verbal material and use language to reason and express ideas. The Visual Spatial Scale subtests measure nonverbal reasoning, spatial perception and ability to analyze abstract visual stimuli. Subtests on the Fluid Reasoning Scale assess visual-perceptual processing, classification ability and conceptual thinking. The Working Memory subtests evaluate visual recall and working memory (i.e., the ability to hold information in conscious awareness, simultaneously perform some type of cognitive task with it and then produce a result). The Processing Speed subtests measure ability to process visual material in problem-solving activities with speed and accuracy.

Three-year olds are administered subtests from three of the scales (the Verbal Comprehension, Visual Spatial and Working Memory scales). Children who are four to seven years old are administered subtests from each of the five scales described above. Administration of the WPPSI-IV takes approximately 40 minutes for three-year-olds and about one hour for four to seven-year-olds.

Following the assessment a phone conference will be scheduled to discuss the results of the assessment and the child’s approach to the WPPSI tasks. The fee for the WPPSI-IV assessment is $375 for a 3 through 6 year old, and includes the test administration, the parent conference, and the written report (provided to parents and schools to which you are applying).

We also offer the possibility of scheduling a follow up Collaborative Educational Consultation with Theodra Washington where she will provide information on the variety of schools and programs across the Washington, D.C. area and how those can better respond to your child.

WISC-V

The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children – Fifth Edition (WISC-V) is an individually administered clinical instrument for assessing the cognitive ability of children aged 6 years through 16 years 11 months (6:00-16:11). It provides a composite score that represents a child’s overall cognitive ability (FSIQ) and primary index scores that represent intellectual functioning in five specified cognitive areas: Verbal comprehension, Visual Spatial, Fluid Reasoning, Working Memory and Processing Speed.
Prior to the WISC-V appointment we suggest that you tell your child that he will be doing some activities such as listening and giving answers to interesting questions, looking at pictures and working with blocks – and that you are sure the experience will be enjoyable and a chance to discover ways in which we learn. Administration of the WISC-V generally takes up to one and a half hours.

Following the assessment, a phone conference will be scheduled to discuss the assessment results and the child’s approach to the WISC-V tasks. The fee of $475 for the WISC-V assessment includes the test administration, the parent conference, and the written report (provided to parents and schools to which you are applying).
